1. All
organisms need to exchange food,
waste materials and gases with their surroundings in
order to survive and grow. These processes are performed by a transport system.
2. The
unicellular organisms such as amoeba sp. can receive oxygen and nutrients
from the environment and eliminate carbon
dioxide and other waste
products from their bodies via diffusion through the
plasma membrane easily.
3. As
an organism increases in size, a transport system is essential so that
dissolved materials could move rapidly to and from all parts of the body.
