Form 5

Chapter 1: Transport

1.      All organisms need to exchange food, waste materials and gases with their surroundings in order to survive and grow. These processes are performed by a transport system.

2.      The unicellular organisms such as amoeba sp. can receive oxygen and nutrients from the environment and eliminate carbon dioxide and other waste products from their bodies via diffusion through the plasma membrane easily.

3.      As an organism increases in size, a transport system is essential so that dissolved materials could move rapidly to and from all parts of the body.
